How To Get Admission Into The University Without JAMB

In Nigeria, it is a big struggle to get admission into the University since the introduction of the Joint Admission Matriculation Board (JAMB) in 1978. JAMB is indeed a very old way of screening qualified students into Tertiary institutions in the Country. I personally think it should be scrambled as it has taking a toll on the chances of getting admission into the University.

To add more stress to this struggle for admission Post UTME was then introduced in 2004. Finally, it is in review to cancel JAMB allowing Post UTME determine the chances of admission and hopefully it will get cancelled as this will further reduce the stress of getting admitted into the University in Nigeria.

Student protest to ban JAMB

Over 1.7 million students seek admission into the University every year but the big challenge is getting a high score in Jamb because without having a good score from JAMB chances of making the UTME is near impossible. That is 1.7 million student fighting for a space limited to 850,000 students.

But why waste so much time at home waiting to pass JAMB, a lot people have tried JAMB up to 4 times; that’s 4 years without success, even when you successfully get through JAMB, UTME is waiting which is another big bridge to cross.

But why waste time waiting for something that seem impossible, counting years of trying being at home for another year when there are programs in these same Universities you are trying to get admitted to that will enable you get fulltime admission.

In this post, you will find ways and walk around that you can use to easily get admission without waiting for JAMB, So pay attention to details.[Read:9 Bad Habits That Causes Pimples]

Below are programs that you can use to get admission into listed Universities and their processes

Diploma Programs

A diploma is a degree program the runs for a duration of 1 or 2 years depending on your course of study and institution. Diploma affords you an opportunity to study a course of your choice, I will advice you pick a course related to the one you will like to study as a fulltime student as this will ease your chances of admission into the main course. This program is good because instead of wasting another year waiting for JAMB, at the end of the program you will be offered a chance to go straight to 200L through direct entry that means you did not actually lose a year because you starting your fulltime program from year 2, meaning the one-year duration was actually your 100L. So, I strongly recommend it for any student who has been trying JAMB without success to opt in for this program in the desired institution but note not all courses are available in the Diploma which brings us to our next program.

jambPre-Degree Programs

These are programs that serves as a brush up to Secondary School leavers seeking admission into the University. These programs duration are usually 7-9 months after which you will be offered admission straight into any course of your choice into 100L as a fulltime student.

And as a bonus it will be warming to know that almost all the private Universities in Nigeria do not require you to write JAMB to get admission into them, all you need do is buy their admission forms, sit for their tests and you will be giving admission when you pass their test or interview which is relatively simpler than sitting for Agricultural Science in WAEC exams.

Skill has become what every employer is looking for in Nigeria and the World at large, so I would also advice aspiring students to consider applying for technical Colleges spread across every state. Attending a technical College gives you an edge over the University students in Nigeria because most of these University do not have the facilities to carry out what they are taught in the class rooms, with your skill acquired from technical Colleges you can easily create jobs for yourself and become an employer of labour as you have the skills it takes to actually carry out what you are taught in technical Colleges.
